CEL accepts the challenge to reinvent itself

By Terry Rawls, Interim CEL Dean

As many of you may have heard, CMU’s College of Extended Learning is undergoing some re-organizational changes . . . including a yet to be determined change in our name. Please be assured that we will still be offering the same programs as before and  will be adding some new ones as well.

We are taking advantage of changes on our main campus, and, frankly, responding to the challenge put down by our competition to re-invent ourselves to continue to be successful as we move into a new age in higher education. Accepting this challenge means that we are going to put you, the student, into the center of our universe, and reinvent ourselves to better help you accomplish your goals.

This is not a painless process, as you well know, and we are working diligently to make it as swift and productive as we can. With the wealth of knowledge within our organization at our fingertips we believe that we have a plan that places students first and will be even better at providing educational opportunities worldwide.

Most of the changes will be internal. You will likely not even be aware that change is occurring. Our goal is to develop our core competencies to become a more efficient, effective organization, and we anticipate that your experience of this change will be in a subtle realization that things are running more smoothly all the time. However, there will be some bumps along the way, so please "Pardon Our Mess," as the sign says.
