The SAE is a professional engineering society with nearly 80,000 members
worldwide. SAE members represent industry leaders in all areas of land, air
and space mobility technology who are working in industry, government and
education. The Vehicle Design Program at CMU sponsors an SAE Student Chapter
and encourages all design/engineering/manufacturing professionals to support
our society.

American Society of Body Engineers (www.asbe.com):
ASBE is a 55-year-old institution dedicated to the prosperity of the
automotive industry. Central Michigan University supports the educational
programs, publications and events developed through the ASBE membership and
its executive committees. CMU encourages all vehicle designers and engineers
to participate in the ASBE Certification Examinations for: entry level
designers, intermediate designers and designing engineers.
American Plastics Council: Automotive Learning Center (www.plastics-car.com):
Involved in the design, engineering and styling of vehicles, the Automotive
Learning Center in Troy, Michigan is intended to help professionals succeed
in their jobs. The American Plastics Council represents the plastic design
industry whose goal is to help professionals discover how plastic delivers
weight savings, design flexibility, durability, parts reduction and superior
overall performance.

Auto/Steel Partnership (www.a-sp.org):
The Auto/Steel Partnership is a collaboration of the world's leading North
American Sheet Steel-producing corporations with DaimlerChrysler, Ford Motor
Company and the General Motors Corporation. The leaders of the A/SP
recognize the value of combining resources and marked the first large-scale
consortium involving automakers and a supplier industry. The object of this
partnership is to improve technology, quality and reliability in the
manufacture and application of automotive sheet steel.
An important resource and service provided by the A/S Partnership:
www.naamsstandards.org. The NAAMS Global Standard Components – Stamping
and the NAAMS Global Standard Components – Assembly are produced and
maintained in a joint effort by Daimler Chrysler Corporation, Ford Motor
Company, General Motors Corporation and their suppliers. They describe and
define the components that have been adopted as standard by those companies
when designing and constructing stamping dies and body assembly tools for
sheet steel body components. The effort is conducted under the sponsorship
of the Auto/Steel Partnership.
