Note:
The educational technologies are not included in the cost of the
course.
Objective:
This course will help participants develop skills necessary
for the effective use of the TI-84 Plus graphing calculator in the
collecting and analysis of scientific—specifically, biological—data. By
interfacing the graphing calculator with the data collection workhorse,
the CBL2, and a variety of probeware, participants in SCI 597AA
will
develop the confidence and expertise necessary to use this technology
with students in the classroom. Activities in the course will range from
using the graphing calculator to simply enter and analyze data related
to Biology, to performing experiments where data is collected, analyzed,
and stored after the collection.
Focus: All of the modules and activities in this course will center
around the TI-84 Plus graphing calculator. Helping to develop scientific
literacy and competency through the use of this device is the primary
focus of the course. Data collection and analysis is vital to the
science classroom. As such, the majority of the activities in the course
will involve collection of data while performing scientific experiments.
This 8-module course contains a total of 16 required activities, and is
self-paced. The culminating event will be the development of an original
activity by the course participants.
