Prior Learning Overview

Academic credit may be awarded for what has been learned through the normal course of job (work) related responsibilities, through training received in the performance of a job or through learning resulting from career and personal experiences, community service, etc.

Undergraduate students may be awarded up to 60 semester hours of prior learning credit toward degree completion. To pursue prior learning assessment credit for what has been learned, undergraduate students must have regular admission status.

Graduate degree students may be awarded up to 10 semester hours of prior learning assessment credit on their degree program and must have either conditional or regular admission status.
Please note that prior learning credit is not available to all students or programs.

Please contact the Prior Learning Coordinator by phone at 866-774-1018, option #1, complete our online form, or e-mail the Prior Learning Coordinator at priorlrn@cmich.edu  to ask specific questions about the process and to find out if prior learning is applicable in your degree program.
