| OCLS has
been busy working on projects to better serve off-campus students with the
College of Extended Learning. The results of these projects will enhance
reference service and add to more online information sources.
Beginning September 4, additional hours were added to the OCLS reference desk. Students may now speak with an OCLS reference librarian from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Mondays; from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday; and from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Fridays. This new schedule, which adds one hour per day, will allow students more flexibility in gaining reference service. The extension of service to later in the day on Mondays is expected to garner more inquiries as students can speak with a librarian throughout the evening. Off-campus students can also order more books and articles from Document Delivery. Up to 50 items per course per week may be ordered by fax or e-mail, which is a significant increase from the old limit of 20 items. Telephone orders will continue to be limited to 20 items. This increase will allow students access to more articles and books thus giving them additional information sources in completing class research projects. OCLS is also making available education documents that students can read online and print from their own PCs. ERIC E*Subscribe is the electronic document subscription service of the Educational Resources Information Center. ERIC has always been extremely popular with education students and provides information in the form of citations to journal articles and education documents. Prior to ERIC E*Subscribe, students would have to order the full text document portion of their ERIC search from Document Delivery of OCLS. The new service now allows students to view and print many full text ERIC documents from the convenience of their own PCs. Documents not available from this database in pdf format can still be ordered through OCLS Document Delivery. |
