Instructor End-of-Course Survey to be revised

By Alicia Haley, FIPSE Coordinator

Thank you to all the instructors who completed the instructor survey last term. The survey was sent to the 260 instructors teaching Fall II, 2003, with 68 instructors responding. Seventeen instructors did not receive their survey, because their global IDs were not activated. As a reminder, instructors will no longer receive their student end-of-course reports (or results from the instructor survey) in the mail and must activate their global IDs in order to read/print them off of the Web. Reports can be accessed through the login link on the Faculty Resource Center Home page located at: www.cel.cmich.edu/faculty.

The instructor end-of-course survey will be revised and be ready for production at the end of the Spring 2004 term (Spring II for DDL). Instructors will receive a link to this survey through their CMU e-mail address when their course ends. This link will remain live until grades are posted to ISIS.

Plans call for the electronic survey to be enhanced so that it prompts a response by instructors, evaluating their effectiveness in terms of the Maximizing Learning principles and responding to questions that are critical to services provided by CEL.

In addition, instructors will have an opportunity to respond in narrative form about factors that improved or hindered their ability to be effective in the classroom. All data generated will be available through links on the Faculty Resource Center. Other data regarding support services and overall satisfaction will be gathered once a year in an additional Web survey.

Instructors are encouraged to use this opportunity to provide additional information about their courses. Instructors will be able to use this data for formative purposes and as supporting material in the three-year approval process. Administrators will be able to view this data to gain a better understanding of what happened in the course. The instructor survey functions as the second source in the Faculty Assessment Battery. If you have any questions, please e-mail the Faculty Resource Center at FRC@cmich.edu.
