From D. Terry Rawls, CEL Interim Dean
Changes will provide new educational opportunities

The College of Extended Learning is in the process of a significant restructuring. We are taking advantage of changes on our main campus, and, frankly, responding to the challenge put down by our competition to re-invent ourselves to be successful as we move into a new age in higher education.

This is not a painless process, as you well know, and we are working diligently to make it as swift and productive as we can. With the wealth of knowledge within our organization at our fingertips we believe that we have a plan that places students first and faculty second, and will be even better at providing educational opportunities worldwide.

Most of the changes will be internal, with some notable exceptions (see the article on New Faculty Center). You will likely not even be aware that change is occurring. Our goal is to develop our core competencies to become a more efficient, effective organization, and we anticipate that your experience of this change will be in a subtle realization that things are running more smoothly all the time. However, there will be some bumps along the way, so please "Pardon Our Mess," as the sign says.

How can you help? It’s simple: Activate your Global ID, forward the e-mail to an account that you check frequently (or check the CMU account weekly), stay tuned to the Faculty Resource Center, and stay involved and engaged in both your discipline and the discipline of university teaching. Instructions for activating your Global ID (see article on CMU global ID).
