Middle Level Endorsement
The young adolescent requires special attention. No longer a child, not yet a teenager… their lives are full of stresses that often follow them into the classroom.
21 credit hours
Central Michigan University Off-Campus Programs is now offering an 21 credit hour Middle Level Endorsement at our Livonia Center, 38695 Seven Mile Road, Suite 120 in Livonia, Michigan. The program is a planned series of seven courses addressing the challenges of teaching the middle level student:
- Young Adolescent Needs and Characteristics
- Concepts, Structures, and Programs for Middle Level Schools
- Student Diversity Issues in the Middle Level Classroom
- Issues in Meeting the Diverse Needs of Middle Level Learners
- Middle Level School Curriculum
- Secondary Advanced Reading Diagnosis and Instruction
- Field Experience in Middle Level Education
Compressed terms at our Livonia Center
Taught by instructors who are also seasoned teachers, each course is four weekends long, meeting from 6 to 10 p.m. on Friday and 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday. Classes are taught at CMU’s Livonia Center, 38695 Seven Mile Road, Suite 120 in Livonia, Michigan just west of I-275.
Added benefits
The series of courses increases your knowledge and skills as well as adding the following benefits:
- Applies credits toward your professional certificate
- Adds credits that can be used toward a Master of Arts degree in Middle Level Education at CMU
Completing the MLE program and passing of the Michigan Middle Level Competency Test:
- Adds Michigan Middle Level Endorsement (ZL) to your teacher’s certificate
- Qualifies certified secondary teachers to teach grades 5 -12, and certified elementary teachers to teach K - 9 (in areas for which they are certified)
