Once you have been given an admission status – non-degree, regular or
conditional admission – one of the first things you must do is set up your
CMU Global ID and e-mail account. Your tuition statements, course schedule
information and all other critical communications from CMU are sent to your
CMU e-mail account. You could miss out on vital information if you do not
set up your account.
Important note: The Receivable Accounting
Office sends all billing statements electronically to CMU global e-mail
addresses. Students are responsible for accessing these monthly e-mail
messages for their account balance and payment due dates.
| For security purposes, a student with any admission status – non-degree, regular or conditional – can only set up a Global ID and e-mail account within 30 days following their admission to CMU. After 30 days, the student will need to contact the on-campus Help Desk at (989) 774-3662 or helpdesk@cmich.edu for assistance in setting up their account. |
How to set up your CMU Global ID and e-mail account:
If you have questions or concerns about the use of your global id or CMU
e-mail address, check out our Frequently Asked Questions below.
Q. What if I don’t know my CMU global e-mail address or password?
A. Log on to
https://myaccount.cmich.edu/newaccount and follow the prompts to
set up your account and password.
Q. I prefer not to use the CMU student e-mail system. Can I forward
it to a different account?
A. Yes, you can forward your CMU e-mail to a different e-mail account if
you choose. If you need instructions on how to forward the account,
simply follow the procedure outlined below:
Important note: Although the option to forward e-mail appears to
offer greater flexibility to students (and staff) interested in maintaining
a pre-existing account, there are a number of potential risks associated
with this process. It is for this reason that the university strongly
recommends users avoid forwarding their university provided e-mail accounts.
For descriptions of the problems associated with forwarding CMU
e-mail, visit:

Q. What if I don’t have access to the Internet?
A. CMU program centers, regional offices and library facilities offer
Internet access to current students. In addition, most public libraries
provide PCs with Internet access. Contact your program center for suggested
Internet access locations in your area.
Q. What if I need to speak to someone in person about a problem
with my global ID or e-mail account?
A. Call the CMU help desk at 989-774-3662.
Q. How should I submit my tuition assistance voucher for
course payment?
A. Please send the tuition assistance voucher directly to Central
Michigan University, Off-Campus Programs, 802 Industrial Drive, ATTN:
Tuition Assistance, Financial Services, Mount Pleasant, MI 48859.
Q. How do I make a payment?
A. Your electronic statement will contain a link to the CMU Portal,
portal.cmich.edu,
where you can view your account balance and history, as well as make
an automated credit card payment (you will need to know your student
number and PIN).
