Graduate Faculty Status Policy Change - Fall 2006
The College of Graduate Studies revised the Graduate Education Policy regarding graduate faculty membership. The new policy includes changes such as:

  • All faculty can now apply to receive “Full,” “Regular,” or “Associate Status.”
  • “Full Status” faculty will be re-evaluated every five years and can chair dissertation committees. Capstone and Plan B papers are not dissertations or thesis. Although this process has changed from three to five years, faculty who teach off-campus must still complete their Three-Year Review materials every three years for review by the academic department.
  • “Regular” faculty will be re-evaluated every four years and can be on dissertation committees as one of the three faculty members as well as teach independent study (research-intensive) courses. Although this process has changed from three to four years, faculty who teach off-campus must still complete their Three-Year Review materials every three years for review by the academic department.
  • “Associate” faculty will be re-evaluated every three years and can teach field studies or any graduate numbered course that they are approved to teach.

A copy of the complete policy is available online at the link above.

The three year review process must be completed before your graduate faculty status (GFS) expires to allow for processing of any contract. The Expiration date of GFS is indicated in your three year review letter . To accomplish this, please submit your 3 year review materials (updated Three Year Review Application and updated vita) as soon as possible but no later than 8 weeks before your graduate faculty status expires. Academic Services will work with you to make sure that you are current in your course approvals as well as your graduate level status. If you have any questions regarding this process, please feel free to e-mail Beth Kenny or Bonnie Bohannon.
