End of Course Surveys

End of Course surveys are distributed during the final class session/weekend for our face-to-face courses and on the Wednesday of the final week of online courses. For our face-to-face courses, either the Program Administrator or another designated individual (such as a student volunteer) will administer the survey.

Important: You must not be in the room during the time needed for completion of the survey. In addition, you must not collect the surveys. A student in the class should be designated to collect and deliver them.

The End-of-Course Survey measures the principles of teaching effectiveness that are outlined in Maximizing Learning The questions are designed to provide you with focused feedback on your performance in the classroom. There are two versions of the End-of-Course Survey. Following are samples of each type:

  1. Face-to-face course survey (EOC survey, comment sheet)
  2. Web-based course survey (web-based courses)

The two versions vary only slightly. Students also complete an open response Comment Sheet. All students - face to face, web course - are asked to comment on the same three questions:

  1. Please describe one specific learning activity that was particularly useful in helping you to meet the learning objectives of this course. For example, learning activities can be take-home assignments, reading materials, class projects, or case studies, etc.
  2. Please describe any factor or situation that impeded your learning in this course.
  3. What specific suggestions do you have to make this course a better learning experience?

Your End of Course surveys will be included in your three-year review application to the respective academic department, which will use the results in their decision to renew or cancel your instructor approval. In addition, ProfEd staff review the surveys while determining future course contracts. If we have significant concerns regarding your students’ comments, either a staff member or a mentor will contact you to follow up.

We hope that you will take your students’ feedback seriously and incorporate it into any future teaching assignments with CMU. If you ever have questions or concerns about the surveys, please contact us.
