Although CMU does not have a blanket policy on student attendance and online participation, we strongly encourage you to make this a part of your student performance assessment. You should clearly state your policy regarding student attendance and absences in your syllabus.
Students are responsible for contacting the instructor with TDY (temporary duty orders), leave schedules, or other unavoidable obligations that may conflict with class meetings. Makeup work should be arranged on an individual basis between student and instructor.
On occasion, a student enrolled in a class may be sent temporarily to a different location by her/his employer. Students are informed that they must contact the instructor to determine if they would be able to complete the course independently. In such cases, we encourage instructors to assist a student who is attempting to complete the course independently, provided that the academic integrity of the program will be maintained.
When necessary, the Program Administrator will monitor makeup tests. While it is the student’s responsibility to determine with the Program Administrator a suitable time and place for testing, instructors are asked to provide any specific requirements or guidelines that the Program Administrator should be aware of when monitoring the exam. You should also notify the students of this policy.
