Library Introduces
Online Videos
The Park Library recently added its first
three streaming video titles to its catalog. These three
videos – two in the area of Education and one in the area of
Business – are housed entirely online and are intended to be
accessed and viewed through the library's CENTRA catalog (a
user simply enters his name and ID number when asked, as he
does when accessing one of our online article databases, to
view the video). To view the titles, simply follow the links
below:
http://catalog.lib.cmich.edu/record=b1901047~SO
http://catalog.lib.cmich.edu/record=b1900965~SO
http://catalog.lib.cmich.edu/record=b1901046~SO
The impetus for adding streaming video
titles to the library's collection came from the Off-Campus
Library Services department, who sees online video as a real
convenience for off-campus faculty and students. The
traditional method of delivering video materials to
off-campus faculty involves checking the availability of the
requested item, waiting as the item is being shuttled
through the mail, and then the effort of returning the item
to Mount Pleasant. But with online video, access is
instantaneous, and a title will always be available because
our licensing rights include multiple simultaneous users.
Additionally, as a faculty member, you are no longer limited
to showing videos during the class period. With the
round-the-clock access that comes with online video, you
could assign a video to be viewed outside of class by adding
a link to the CENTRA record within your Blackboard course
shell.
At this time, the library owns only the
three titles linked above, but the plan is to increase the
number of online videos offered in the future. If you have
any questions about this exciting new service, please
contact Tim Peters at
peter1t@cmich.edu or (989) 774-3720.
Electronic Contracts
Beginning Spring 2009
I am pleased to announce beginning with Spring
2009, all course contracts will be sent to instructors via CMU
e-mail accounts. We feel this will provide an efficient means to
distribute the contracts.
Instructors will required to sign and return
contracts in one of the following ways in order to be added to
the payroll system:
-
Return the contract signed with an
electronic signature to an off-campus payroll e-mail
address.
-
Print the contract, sign, and fax to the
off-campus Financial Services office.
-
Print the contract, sign, and mail a hard
copy to the off-campus Financial Services office.
Contracts will be sent as an attachment, using
PDF format, and will include full instructions on returning the
contracts in one of the above formats.
As a reminder, all instructors should be
accessing their CMU e-mail accounts on a regular basis, or you
may forward your CMU e-mail to another personal e-mail account.
You may forward your CMU e-mail by going to
