The library has debuted three short online
tutorials as part of helping students and faculty better
understand and utilize the resources and services available
through Off-Campus Library Services. The three are part of
what will be a series of new tutorials designed to provide
convenient online instruction in the use of library
resources (such as article databases and ebooks), library
services (such as ordering articles and books through
Document Delivery), and general topics (for example, how to
contact the Writing Center).
Future additions to the
OCLS tutorials collection will be added as they become
available.

Blackboard, Inc.
Releases Version 9.0 of the Blackboard Learning Management
System
In late January, Blackboard, Inc. announced
the availability of the next version of its learning system,
9.0. Considered by Blackboard to be the next step toward its
next generation, "NG," initiative, version 9 promises many
notable improvements and additional capabilities. Web 2.0
functionality, such as drag and drop arrangement of modules
and course content as well as student blogging/journaling
tools, are standard components. Contextual menus and
improved navigation and access to instructor side tools are
also among the improvements.
Discussion and evaluation of Blackboard 9 is in
the very early stages at CMU and will be ongoing. No plans have
yet been discussed to determine if and when an upgrade might
occur. In the meantime, those interested in learning more about
the newest release of Blackboard are invited to visit the
Blackboard.com Release 9 Web site at
www.blackboard.com/release9. A video demonstration,
opportunities to attend related webinars and test accounts are
available on the site.

IRBNet and CITI Training
Reminder
All Institutional
Review Board (IRB) applications must now be submitted
through IRBNet. If your students will be conducting research as
part of a course, you will need to register in IRBNet and
familiarize yourself with its functions. You will also need to
complete the CITI training and exams for "Social and Behavioral
Research" (Basic/Refresher). Any student who is using human
subjects will also need to complete this training and the
attached exams. The training and exams take approximately 4
hours and an 80% overall is considered satisfactory for meeting
the requirement.
Please visit
www.cel.cmich.edu/irb for more information and direct
connections to both IRBNet and CITI. Together with the MSA
Office, we are creating additional training materials that will
be available on this Web site in the near future.
