Congratulations are in order to all the individuals that provided the
countless hours and expertise in the development of the Vehicle Engineering
Design Technology program as approval from the Academic Senate has been
received.
Therefore, beginning the Fall of 2007 the curriculum will change based upon the
recommendations of the automotive industry, graduates, and faculty of the
program. The major will be reduced from 77 semester hours to 69 semester hours
and will focus on the essential design elements required by today’s automotive
industry.
Vehicle engineering designers research, develop, design, manufacture, and test a
variety of vehicle components. Vehicle designers need to be creative,
inquisitive, analytical, and detailed-oriented. They need good oral and written
communication skills to work with specialists in supply functions. For these
reasons major cognate coursework in English, Mathematics and Science have been
added to enhance the student’s communication, math, problem solving, and
critical think skills.
The program is committed to continuous program evolution to meet the global
needs of the automotive manufacturers and suppliers. Exciting new courses such
as Vehicle Chassis and Suspension and Vehicle Power Train Propulsion should open
up new opportunities for graduates.
Once again, congratulations on a job well done.
Best Regards!
