Master of Science in Administration degree
The Master of Science in Administration (MSA) degree is an interdisciplinary
graduate program with an applied focus. Its central purpose is to prepare
managers, administrators, and supervisors in both private and public sector
environments to function effectively within all types of organizations and at
all levels of administration. The MSA degree's main thrust is action-oriented,
forward-looking management within a broad organizational perspective. This
degree is highly sensitive to the constituencies and the demographic and
cultural environments it serves. The uniqueness of this degree program is its
ability to adapt the necessary academic processes and course work to an
organization's rapidly changing informational and technological needs.
Starting
in fall 2010, an updated MSA administrative core will be in place. In response
to student focus groups and extensive research, the administrative core will
focus on key skills needed by effective administrators. Required course work
covers research methods, organizational behavior and theory, managerial
accounting and finance, strategic planning, and global administration. Students
finish the program with an integrative applied capstone project. The MSA Program
is also available on CMU’s main campus. There are currently 170+ students in the
main campus program. You can view the information at the following link:

“It’s challenging teaching online. There are times when I miss being able to
scan the room to see who’s getting it. My courses are asynchronous so you have
some people who take it slowly and others who race ahead. The challenge is to
keep your responses consistent and keep them relevant to all the students when
they come together for questions.”
