Central Michigan University’s Off-Campus Programs Sixth Annual Make a Difference Day event was a record-breaking success! A record 763 children attended our celebration of reading.

Children selected a grand total of 2753 free books. In our Off Campus Programs library children selected 760 books and also had the opportunity to meet our guest author Deborah Todaro Parsons. Deb personally autographed and distributed 455 of her books, I Live Next Door to My Neighbor. The Scholastic company gave away 290 books and 376 families received autographed copies of the three book series (1128 books total) Fred the Mouse by local Bay City author 12-year old Reese Haller. In addition, Mr. McFeely autographed and handed out 120 copies of You Are Special, Words of Wisdom from America’s Most Beloved Neighbor, Fred Rogers

Children received free balloon animals and also had their faces painted with the Heart of Michigan Clowns. All children had the opportunity to have a free picture taken with Mr. McFeely, Dora the Explorer, Clifford the Big Red Dog and Click-it the Cricket. In addition, children were able to sit down and read with Dog Tales, listened to a story hour by Mr. McFeely and enjoyed free food and beverages. Children also enjoyed more than a dozen arts and crafts tables including a new passport to reading section, a writing bee workshop, were greeted by local public safety officers and toured a fire engine .
