General Education Requirements
(33-42 semester hours)
Your General Education courses will provide you with a broad educational
foundation. This program includes university
Competency Requirements and the
University Program Requirements. General Education courses teach you about
forces, ideas and values that shape the world and about the structure of
organized human knowledge. Courses also provide opportunities for you to:
- acquire basic skills
- understand how your major relates to other fields
- explore various fields and learn things you might not otherwise seek
out
- learn to communicate with other people in other disciplines and jobs
- acquire broad knowledge necessary for a successful career
- develop a foundation for lifelong learning
Competency Requirements
Completing 3-12 semester hours of
Competency Requirements show that you are competent in each of the
following areas. You must receive a “C” or better in each course to achieve
competency.
- Freshman Composition
- Advanced Composition
- Oral English
- Mathematics
University Program Requirements
You must complete a minimum of 27-30 semester hours of
University Program Courses and must earn a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0
within the University Program (UP). UP requirements can be fulfilled using three
different methods. You should review the CEL Bulletin for specific details for
each method.
- Students who have taken course work at a Michigan community college
may qualify for MACRAO. Please see your community college for details.
- Students who do not qualify for MACRAO or who have attended a college
or university outside the state of Michigan may qualify for
Transfer Block.
- Students who have not attended a university/college or transfer
students who do not qualify for above methods will complete the UP using
the Course by Course method.
