Bachelor of Science, Option in Community Development

Are you interested in working in the public sector or in human services? Graduates with this degree are prepared for careers as city, county, state or federal administrators, agency managers, public health professionals, community education directors and more.

Requirements

  1. General Education courses – two types taken by all students
  2. Core courses – required basic courses in your major area of study
    Areas of Study – 24 hours of coursework from the following four areas:
    • Area 1 –General theory and practice of a community
    • Area 2 – Interaction of community institutions in a Community Setting
    • Area 3 – Methods appropriate for studying community behavior and the implementation and evaluation of community programs
    • Area 4 – Organization theory and leadership, interpersonal relationships, communication, and group dynamics
  3. Concentration Courses – 12 hours of coursework in your chosen area of concentration (see below)
  4. Planned Electives – to allow you to customize your degree to your areas of interest

Community Services

The Community Services concentration is designed to enable you to select a focus area that will prepare you for employment in settings that provide service to the community. Students are prepared for positions in community agencies and non-profit organizations.
